Fancifull Gift Baskets
Being part of the chamber allows me to be involved and help create this historic section of Los Angeles. As a citizen it keeps me abreast of what is going on in the city so I can be informed of changes happening and take part where needed. Because of its location this chamber also has some of the best lunches and events anywhere….
Terry August is the owner of Fancifull Fine Food and Baskets located on Melrose in Hollywood. It all began with an idea in 1987 as a way to make extra money while her children were young. Decades later, those children are now in their thirties and married, but Terry and her partner and husband Wally, are still creating Fancifull in delicious ways.
Fancifull has allowed them to travel the world in search of new product and to meet the producers they carry. From a day spent with winemakers in the north of Italy or working with cheese makers in California, she is always on the search for the very best product. A search that seems to be never ending but always exciting. The focus is always on sustainable, organic, and local product, although most important is finding those producers who are doing it right and introducing them to her clients and their recipients via Fancifull Baskets. Promoting local makers is a passion for Terry as she attends shows and explores the local landscape. She takes great pride in being able to help local makers by designing them in big orders so they get out to the public. One local baker she has used for years was able to open a storefront in Santa Monica and put Terry and Fancifull on their wall of fame. But she notes that cheesemakers in Spain also need to sell their product , so emphasizes she has a local focus with a world wide view . That wide view also extends to understanding all diet preferences such as vegan, kosher and gluten free. She knows that her job is to make others happy and you do that by giving them what they love.
Having a shop on Melrose has allowed her to open her doors to various events and fundraisers, one of her favorite activities. A Pot Luck for Slow Food International to help put a focus on school lunches, fundraisers for such organizations as WriteGirl, Van Ness Elementary Sustainable Garden, Raising Money for Art Supplies for a local High School, The Hollywood Farmers Market and many other groups. She also likes to open her shop for focused tastings to help people learn about and enjoy their food as well as to introduce them to local makers. It is all about community and communication and appreciating what is great in life.
Playing an active part in the local community has always been important to Terry which is why joining the board of the Miracle Mile Chamber was a natural and easy choice.
